Writing Across the Curriculum Track at the FCTL Summer 2018 Conference
Call for Proposals
The UCF Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Program invites proposals for the Summer 2018 WAC Track, which will be offered as a part of the FCTL summer faculty conference. The primary purpose of the track is to provide space and time for faculty to work on writing-related instructional projects. Such projects include but are not limited to the creation of new and significant revision of existing writing assignments, design or revision of writing-intensive courses and assessments, such as portfolios, integration of writing assignments into programs, and others. We are particularly interested in proposals from faculty members who have done no or little WAC-work in the past and would like a brief introduction to WAC principles. We hope that participating in the WAC Track will interest faculty in participating in other WAC activities at UCF, such as the WAC Fellows program.
To apply for participation in the WAC Track, please send us the following:
A brief (no longer than 100 words) description of a “teaching problem” that you hope to solve through increased or improved integration of writing into your teaching. Essentially, what we are asking for here are your ideas on how more or better writing instruction in your courses can improve your teaching and student learning. Such “teaching problems” include but are not limited to teaching critical thinking, research skills, academic reading skills, conventions of academic and professional genres of your field and others.
A brief (100 words or less) proposal on how you intend to solve the problem. This can include an idea for a new or revised assignment, a series of assignments, integration of writing into courses or programs, and others. What we are asking for here are just ideas or a general direction—you will spend time working on this project during the Track.
All participants who successfully complete the WAC Track will receive the same stipend as other conference participants. Please e-mail your proposal, as a Word attachment, to UCF WAC Director Pavel Zemliansky at email@example.com. Also, write to Pavel if you have questions. We welcome proposals from both individuals and small teams of faculty (typically 3-5 team members in same program or department). Submission deadline is February 26th.
